Next: Sao Vicente Prev: Funchal
Cabo Girao is considered the tallest vertical sea cliff in all of Europe. It is just down the coast from Funchal, on the south side of the island.
This was meant to be a quick stop, but I ended up spending quite some time here. The road up to the cliff was windy, and quickly turned into rural farms scattered across the steep sides.
The actual cliff has a tourist trap, where you can walk out on glass over the edge. Me from a couple years ago would find this unnecessary, but I now have a lot of fun on these types of silly things.

After finding out I missed the bus I meant to take, the lady at the bar told me there was one more I could catch in an hour or two. Being that we were at a bar with this view, I wasn’t too upset.
I found that the real thrill was taking a hidden path to the bus stop, one of skinny concrete balance-beam paths hanging over the edge of the cliffs
Turns out the lady at the bar was wrong though - the bus never came. I spent quite a long time staring at this before figuring that out.
Now that it was well on the way to getting dark, and I was already in the process of picking out the most comfortable bush for the night, I remember that this was a civilized island, not some remote survival thing.
I finally thought to download the equivalent of uber and was on my way to Sao Vicente, on the northern coast of the island.
