Amsterdam, the capital of The Netherlands, and one of the most interesting places on earth.

Montelbaanstoren
Canals
A city built around a network of canals. There are tons of interesting things to learn about this place.

Munttoren
I had to find us a place to stay that fit, in a boat in the main canal.

Every where you look in this city is like a painting.

The townhouse facades are all wonky and crooked. I thought this was because they were so old, but turns out they are a couple reasons - mainly the wet marshland they are built on can have them settle unevenly - but the other reason is more interesting.

The facades lean outwards intentionally over the street with beams sticking out of the top so residents can lift furniture up to the higher floors, as the stairs are too tight. It also keeps rain off the facade.

Biking
The next day we rented a tandem bike to ride around Amsterdam in the way it was meant to be traveled: on two wheels.

We rode all over the place. We took ferries across the main river, and went way out into the countryside.
Amsterdam Cat
Finally on our last day, we rode a boat around the canals and eventually found a dog park on the river to hang out at for a while, as we were exhausted and just wanted to pet some good boys.

There’s so much more to Amsterdam than I was able to fit in this post, like a certain district. It’s jammed packed with history, culture, and places to see. I think I will definitely return one day.
This trip was different than my usual ones, as it was only hopping from big city to city. It was a lot of fun and there was tons of new experiences.
