Next: Seixal Prev: Sao Vicente
Porto Moniz is at the far northwest corner of Madeira. It has volcanic swimming pools right next to the ocean.
I didn’t really know what was at Porto Moniz, but I did know it was the furthest corner of the island from where I started, so it made a fitting destination.
It has huge natural swimming pools right on the volcanic rocks next to the ocean.
As soon as I saw these, I knew I was jumping in. Super relaxing and lots of cool fish join you on your swim. Just don’t get too close to the edge, as the waves from the ocean would often come crashing in.
There is also an island just off the coast with a well placed lighthouse on top.
I love a bit of brutalism here and there too.
It was only a brief stop in Porto Moniz, as the real destination of the day - and the trip to Madeira really, was next - Seixal.
