Porto Moniz is at the far northwest corner of Madeira.

I didn’t know much about Porto Moniz, but I did know it was the furthest corner of the island from where I started.

It has huge natural swimming pools right on the volcanic rocks next to the ocean.

When I saw these, I knew I was jumping in. Cool fish join you on your swim. Just don’t get too close to the edge, big waves from the ocean come crashing in.

There is also an island just off the coast with a well placed lighthouse on top.
A nice bit of brutalism here too.

It was only a brief stop in Porto Moniz, as the real destination of the day - and the trip to Madeira really, was next - Seixal.
