Heading north from Zermatt to Interlaken, they build tunnels underneath the mountains for higher speed trains. I intentionally found one that instead went up and over.

Brig, Switzerland

The train goes from Brig up and over the ridge north towards Interlaken.
Passing by the mountains, I got antsy decided to get off somewhere.

One stop, I noticed most people on the train stood up to get off.
I decided to follow - thinking they must be getting off for a reason.

There was a cable car in the distance.
I ended up joining a group of British lads in the cable car.
Cracking jokes the whole way before seeing what was here.

A vibrant blue mountaintop lake.
This was Oeschinensee (Oeschinen Lake)

When I stumble on places like this I always go swimming, this was no different.
The water was ice cold. Glaciers melt directly into this thing.

An amazing place.
The water is light blue, like it has been dyed. There is a mineral in it known as “Glacial Flour” - ground up powdered rock.
The river in the valley was also this blue color.

A great detour and easy enough to jump back on the train to Interlaken
