Interlaken is a city in between two lakes, given the name.
I arrived at Spiez, a smaller city on Thunersee - the western lake.

Spiez

I wanted to take the ferry along the lake.

Worth it - a spectacular boat ride into town.

The water here was also tinted a shade of blue.

Interlaken is known as the gateway to Jungfrau - the region of dense mountains and valleys just to the south.

I didn’t realize it at the time, but the mountain framed perfectly from the city center is Jungfrau itself.

Since I used one of my “train days” on interrail - a day of unlimited train rides - I took another one in the evening to the far end of the eastern lake, Brienzersee.

There was a small town there called Brienz.

But the next day was going into my other main destination of the country, Lauterbrunnen Valley.
